JetBackup allows you to restore a MySQL database from an available backup.
This is useful if a database was damaged, deleted, changed incorrectly, or affected by a website issue.
This guide explains how to restore a MySQL database using JetBackup in DirectAdmin.
Before You Start
Restoring a database may overwrite the current database content.
This can affect website pages, blog posts, orders, users, settings, and other website information stored in the database.
If your website is built with WordPress, Joomla, an online shop, or another database-driven system, the database is very important.
If you are unsure which database belongs to your website, contact HostworX Support before continuing.
Step 1 – Log Into DirectAdmin
Open your browser and visit: https://cp.yourdomain.co.za (Replace yourdomain.co.za with your own domain name.)
Enter your DirectAdmin username and password.
Click: Log In
Step 2 – Open JetBackup
Once you are logged into DirectAdmin, open JetBackup.
Click: Extra Features
Then click: JetBackup
Step 3 – Open the Database Backup Section
In JetBackup, open the database restore area.
Click: Databases
This section contains backups of MySQL databases available for your hosting account.
Step 4 – Choose the Database
You will see a list of available databases.
Locate: Database name, example: username_wp123
Select the database you want to restore.
Make sure you choose the correct database.
If you restore the wrong database, the wrong website or application may be affected.
Step 5 – Choose a Backup Date
Choose a backup date from before the database problem started.
Locate: Backup date, example: 2026-06-01
If your website files were also restored, try to use the same backup date for the database restore.
This helps keep the website files and database in sync.
Step 6 – Start the Restore
After selecting the correct database and backup date, start the restore.
Click: Restore
JetBackup may ask you to confirm the restore.
Click: Restore Selected Items
The database restore process will begin.
Step 7 – Wait for the Restore to Complete
The restore may take a few minutes, depending on the size of the database.
Do not repeatedly restart the restore.
Once the restore is complete, JetBackup should show the restore status.
Step 8 – Test Your Website
After the database has been restored, open your website in your browser.
Check that the website loads correctly.
If the website uses WordPress, also check:
- Pages
- Posts
- Menus
- Forms
- Products
- Orders
- User accounts
- Website settings
Important Notes
Please keep the following in mind:
- Restoring a database may overwrite current database content.
- Always choose the correct database.
- Choose a backup date from before the problem started.
- WordPress websites often need both files and database to match.
- If website files were restored, the database should usually be restored from the same date.
- HostworX backups are kept for 14 days.
When Should I Restore a Database?
You may need to restore a database if:
- Website content disappeared.
- A WordPress update caused database problems.
- A plugin changed or damaged data.
- A website was hacked.
- A database was accidentally deleted.
- Website settings were changed incorrectly.
- An online shop lost product, order, or customer data.
