JetBackup allows you to restore website files from an available backup.
This is useful if files were deleted by mistake, a website update caused problems, or your website files need to be restored to an earlier version.
This guide explains how to restore website files using JetBackup in DirectAdmin.
Before You Start
Restoring website files may replace existing files in your hosting account.
Before restoring, make sure you understand what you are restoring and which backup date you are using.
If your website uses a database, such as WordPress, restoring only the files may not fully restore the website. You may also need to restore the database from the same date.
If you are unsure, contact HostworX Support before continuing.
Step 1 – Log Into DirectAdmin
Open your browser and visit: https://cp.yourdomain.co.za (Replace yourdomain.co.za with your own domain name.)
Enter your DirectAdmin username and password.
Click: Log In
Step 2 – Open JetBackup
Once you are logged into DirectAdmin, open JetBackup.
Click: Extra Features
Then click: JetBackup
Step 3 – Open the Website Files Backup Section
In JetBackup, look for the file restore option.
Click: Home Directory
This section contains backups of your hosting account files.
Step 4 – Choose a Backup Date
You will see a list of available backup dates.
Locate: The backup date you want to restore, example: 2026-06-01
Choose a date from before the website files were changed, deleted, or damaged.
Step 5 – Select the Files or Folders to Restore
Open the selected backup.
Locate: File or folder to restore, example: domains/yourdomain.co.za/public_html
For most websites, the main website files are usually stored inside the public_html folder for the domain.
Be careful to select the correct domain if your hosting account has more than one website.
Step 6 – Start the Restore
After selecting the files or folders, start the restore process.
Click: Restore
JetBackup may ask you to confirm the restore.
Click: Restore Selected Items
The restore process will begin.
Step 7 – Wait for the Restore to Complete
The restore may take a few minutes, depending on the size of the files.
Do not close the page or repeatedly restart the restore.
Once the restore is complete, JetBackup should show the restore status.
Step 8 – Test Your Website
After the restore has completed, open your website in your browser.
Check that the website loads correctly.
Also test important pages, forms, images, and links.
If your website still does not work correctly, the database may also need to be restored.
Important Notes
Please keep the following in mind:
- Website files are usually stored in the public_html folder.
- Restoring files may overwrite current files.
- If the website uses a database, file restore alone may not fix the issue.
- WordPress websites often require both files and database to match.
- Choose a backup date from before the issue started.
- HostworX backups are kept for 14 days.
When Should I Restore Website Files?
You may need to restore website files if:
- Website files were deleted by mistake.
- A WordPress theme or plugin update broke the website.
- Images or uploads are missing.
- The website was changed incorrectly.
- A developer made changes that need to be reversed.
- The website files were damaged.
Conclusion
JetBackup allows you to restore website files from an earlier backup date.
When restoring website files, always choose the correct domain, folder, and backup date.
If your website uses a database, you may also need to restore the database from the same backup date for the website to work correctly.
