This guide explains how to restore a backup using JetBackup in DirectAdmin.
Why Backups Are Important
Backups help protect your data in case of:
- accidental file deletion
- website problems
- hacking attempts
- failed updates
- malware infections
- hardware failures
We strongly recommend keeping regular backups of your hosting account.
Before You Start
Before restoring a backup, make sure:
- You can log into DirectAdmin
- Your hosting account has enough available disk space
- You know what data you want to back up

What Can Be Restored?
DirectAdmin backups can include:
- Website files
- Email accounts
- Databases
- FTP accounts
- DNS settings
- SSL certificates
How to restore a backup or download a backup.
Step 1 — Log Into DirectAdmin
Open your browser and visit: https://cp.yourdomain.co.za (Replace yourdomain.co.za with your own domain name)
Enter your hosting username and password.
Step 2 — Open JetBackup
From the DirectAdmin dashboard:
Click: Extra Features
Then click: JetBackup
Step 3 — Select Backup Content
Choose the Category you want to restore/download.
Common selections include:
- Full backups
- Home directory
- Cron jobs
- Database users
- Databases
- Domains
- Certificates
- Email Accounts
- FTP Accounts
For full account protection, we recommend selecting full backups.
Step 4 — Choose a backup to restore / download
Select the specific type of category that you want to restore
Select the backup of the specific period, some options like databases, database users, domains certificates, email accounts and ftp users list all the individual items.
You might need to select the "Choose other Backup" button to select a specific backup for that item from the dropdown list. once you have selected the correct dates, then you can click on one or multiple items to select them.
The restore and download buttons will be displayed at the bottom of the page.
Click: Restore to show what items you have selected to restore.
Click Restore Selected Items to restore them to the hosting environment.
or
Click: Download to show what items you are downloading.
Click Download Selected Items to download them to your your local machine.
Our Backup Practices
We Keep Multiple Backups for 14 days
Do not rely on only one backup copy.
We recommend:
- keeping local copies
- storing backups offsite
- creating backups regularly
Create Backups Before Major Changes
Always create backups before:
- WordPress updates
- plugin installations
- website redesigns
- large file uploads

Cannot Download Backup
Check:
- internet connection
- browser settings
- available local storage space
Large backups may take time to download.
Backup Is Very Large
Large mailboxes and old website backups can increase backup size significantly.
Consider:
- removing unnecessary files
- clearing junk mail
- deleting old backups
Security Tips
- Store backups securely
- Do not leave old backups publicly accessible
- Keep multiple backup copies
- Protect backup archives with strong passwords where possible
