How to Register an Additional Domain Name on an Existing Hosting Account
Introduction
If you already have a hosting account with HostworX and would like to register an additional domain name, there are a few important steps to complete before placing your order.
Following the correct process helps ensure that your domain is registered successfully and avoids delays caused by registry verification requirements.
Before You Start
Before registering an additional domain, make sure:
- Your hosting package supports additional domains.
- The domain name is available for registration.
- You have access to your HostworX Client Area.
- You have access to DirectAdmin.
Step 1 – Log Into the HostworX Client Area
Open your browser and visit: https://www.hostworx.co.za/clientarea.phpAlternatively gotohttps://www.Hostworx.co.zaand click client area on the top right side of the website.
Enter your email address and password.
Click: Login
Step 2 – Verify Your Hosting Package Allows Additional Domains
After logging in:
Click: Services
Then: My Services
Select your hosting account.
Review the hosting package details and verify that the number of registered domains is less than the domain limit.
If you have added the same amount of domains that the package offers you will need to upgrade the account to support additional domains first.
If your package does not allow additional domains, you may need to upgrade your hosting package before continuing.
If you are unsure, please contact HostworX support.
Step 3 – Check Domain Availability
From the HostworX website:
Click: Domains
Then: Register a New Domain
Search for your desired domain name.
Examples: mybusiness.co.za or mybusiness.com
If the domain is unavailable, consider:
- Alternative extensions
- Alternative spellings
- Contacting HostworX support for assistance
Step 4 – Log Into DirectAdmin
Before registering the domain, log into DirectAdmin.
Open your browser and visit: https://cp.yourdomain.co.za (Replace yourdomain.co.za with your own domain name.)
Enter your DirectAdmin username and password.
Step 5 – Add the Domain to Your Hosting Account
Within DirectAdmin:
Click: Account Manager
Then: Domains
Click: + Add New
Enter the domain name exactly as you intend to register it.
Example: mybusiness.co.za
Click: Create
DirectAdmin will now create the required hosting and DNS configuration for the domain.
Step 6 – Register the Domain Through the Client Area
Return to the HostworX Client Area.
Add the domain registration to your cart.
Review the registration details.
Proceed to checkout.
Complete payment.
Why Must I Add the Domain Before Registering It?
Many registries now perform automated verification checks shortly after a domain is registered.
If the domain has not already been configured on your hosting account:
- DNS verification may fail.
- The domain may be registered but placed on hold pending dns server verification.
- Additional verification may be required.
- Activation may be delayed.
Adding the domain in DirectAdmin first ensures that the required DNS configuration already exists when the registry performs its checks.
What Happens If I Register the Domain First?
If the domain is registered before being configured:
- The registration may still succeed.
- Registry verification will fail.
- The domain will be placed into a hold status pending dns server verification.
- HostworX will have to issue Nameserver updates to the registrar to get the domain verified and activated.
- if you did do this please notify support@hostworx.co.za so they can issue a nameserver update and get the domain active as soon as possible.
For this reason, we strongly recommend configuring the domain in DirectAdmin before completing registration.
